For Bookmarks at Jubilee Library 2006, Rachel Cohen hid photos inside library books. She collected titles of books where her photos were hidden as well as inviting the public to contribute titles. From these words she has created a series of poems inspired by the images. The poem below has now been printed in a book along with 46 of Rachel’s photos for the Jubilee Library’s Rare Books Collection.

the colour of water
the colour of water

moored in a library,  rattling the cage

water, a turbulent history

summer of love, unsurfed surf,

kiss me

air and water,
we’re all sustained by our environment
this book will save your life

rockfalls, rivermouths and ponds
reflected islands
floating
down to a soundless sea

ring-a-ding floaty things
the web of delight
loose ends, bridges, inter-nets

the cauldron of  life, the highest tide

this book will save your life.
